Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) closed the first nine months of 2026 with attributed net profit of 1.657 billion euros, which represents a 21.2% increase compared with the same period of the previous year. The Tuscan institution expects to complete in November the examination of the offer valued at about 34.000 million euros presented by Intesa Sanpaolo.

MPS’s revenue figure between January and September stood at 6.023 billion euros, 5.6% more, boosted by the 3% rebound in net interest income, up to 3.206 billion euros. In turn, the commissions received grew 3.5%, reaching 1.882 billion euros.

Between July and September, the world’s oldest bank in active operation, whose origins date back to 1472, recorded an attributed profit of 543 million euros, 14.6% higher than that of the third quarter of 2025. In that same period, the revenue figure rose 8.7% year-on-year, to 1.998 billion euros.

Regarding the public takeover and exchange offer proposed by Intesa Sanpaolo for 100% of the share capital of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the entity headquartered in Siena has stated that “it continues its analysis”, specifying that the valuation of the proposal will be carried out by the board of directors of MPS taking as a basis the offer document of Intesa Sanpaolo and the remaining information available.

According to the procedures and deadlines set by the applicable regulations and in accordance with the schedule communicated by Intesa Sanpaolo, “it is expected that this activity will conclude in November”.

Intesa Sanpaolo communicated last week that it maintains its OPA on MPS, after the bank’s general meeting of shareholders rejected the initiative driven by management to launch two acquisition offers on Banco BPM and Banca Generali, as well as the merger project with Mediobanca.

On October 3, Intesa Sanpaolo reported that it increased the cash portion of its offer to 1.25 euros per MPS share, compared with the euro proposed in June, maintaining the share component at 1.6 newly issued treasury shares. With this adjustment, the total value of the transaction rose to about 34.000 million euros, compared with the initial 30.600 million euros set in June with the first proposal.
