The Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) continues "without news" of the president of its Foundation, former minister Fátima Báñez, who was traveling on one of the trains involved in the rail accident recorded early yesterday in the province of Toledo.

"We continue without news of Fátima Báñez, president of the CEOE Foundation, who was traveling yesterday on one of the trains that were involved in the accident. We share the anguish of the families who are living through this terrible uncertainty and send them all our encouragement and support," the employers' association stressed this Thursday on its social networks.

The former minister was occupying one of the seats on the Iryo that was hit yesterday by a Renfe AVE train between Los Yébenes and Urda (Toledo). The two trains, which had left Madrid, were heading to Seville, where Báñez was going to take part in a business event of the Andalusian employers' association.

Báñez has been at the head of the CEOE Foundation since July 2020, a position she reached almost two years after leaving the Ministry of Employment.

Born in Huelva in 1967, Báñez was Minister of Employment and Social Security from December 2011 to June 2018, during the Government presided over by Mariano Rajoy.

She was responsible for promoting the labor reform approved by the PP in 2012, harshly criticized by trade union organizations and against which a general strike was called with the aim of forcing its repeal.

The former minister left politics in March 2019 with the intention of making the leap to the private sector, where she is currently an independent director at Rovi and an outside director of Iberdrola Energía Internacional.
