Digi has announced that starting this Tuesday the speed of its Fibra Smart rate of 1 Gbps will double at no additional cost to 2 Gbps, although some current users will have to change their router to take advantage of this speed increase, with a one-time payment that will range between 30 and 60 euros.
Thus, for the same monthly fee of 20 euros, new customers can contract Fibra Smart with 2 Gbps starting today, as long as Fibra Smart already exists and there is XGS-PON coverage at their home, as detailed by the company in a statement released this Tuesday.
The renewed modality incorporates a router with XGS-PON technology and Wi-Fi 7, capable of providing up to 30% more Wi-Fi coverage within the home, in addition to more speed, lower latency, and better capacity to manage numerous devices connected at the same time in a stable and efficient manner.
Regarding those who already enjoy Fibra Smart of 1 Gbps, depending on the model of router installed, they may start browsing at 2 Gbps automatically from this Tuesday or, if it is not compatible, they will have to replace it with a Wi-Fi 7 router, as long as there is XGS-PON coverage in their area, something they can verify in the My Digi customer area.
If they need to renew the equipment to access the upgrade, they will have the option to request the router change by contacting Digi. This replacement will have a one-time cost of 30 euros if they choose self-installation, or 60 euros if they prefer a technician from the operator to handle the installation and collect the previous device.
The telecommunications operator emphasizes that this update reinforces its commitment to remain "at the forefront" of innovation and to offer "quality" services and "the best experience" of connection at home at "competitive" prices, and highlights that 2 Gbps allow, among other advantages, to reduce the download time of large files and improve the fluidity in activities such as online gaming or streaming content consumption.
