Latin America accumulates in Spain a total of 79,357 million euros in foreign direct investment (FDI), which is equivalent to 11.5% of the country's total foreign investment 'stock' and represents a 141% advance since 2010. This is reflected in the VIII Global Latam Report, prepared by the ICEX with the backing of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (Segib) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The report details that this investment volume has enabled the creation of around 72,000 direct jobs in Spain. By origin, Mexico leads with 37,435 million euros, followed by Argentina, with 12,321 million; Colombia, with 9,227 million; and Brazil, with 6,269 million.

As for sectoral distribution, the largest share is concentrated in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, which totals 20,690 million euros. Next are metallurgy, with 6,161 million; real estate activities, with 6,055 million; financial services, with 5,637 million; and the food industry, with 5,461 million.

The study also highlights that Spain ranks as the second destination for Latin American investment among countries not belonging to the region when considering the number of projects, with a total of 335, only behind the United States.

By line of activity, the software and information and communication technologies sector concentrated 22.9% of the investments, ahead of financial services, business services, and the scope of food and beverages.
