Nickel has set in its new strategic plan the goal of reaching a total of four million customers with active subscriptions in Europe by 2030, in addition to extending its commercial network to 20,000 points of sale spread across the continent.
"Our goal for 2030 is to be increasingly present with our hybrid model, in-person and digital, in every neighborhood and municipality, with the ultimate purpose of bringing basic financial services to the corner of every street," said Nickel's CEO in Spain, Nerea Toña.
Alongside the expansion of its user base, the company wants to broaden and diversify its product range, strengthen its brand positioning, and improve the customer experience. It also aims for half of those 20,000 points of sale planned in Europe to be located outside of France.
Currently, the entity has more than 13,000 active "Puntos Nickel" in Europe (including more than 8,000 tobacconists in France and the strategic alliance with Bpost in Belgium). In the Spanish market, Nickel has more than 2,600 points and expects to reach 2,700 by the end of 2026.
In the coming years, the firm will boost its payment business by incorporating solutions like Wero in France, Belgium, and Germany, and will accelerate the rollout of credit, savings, international transfers, and insurance products.
Among the planned innovations, the company will launch a car insurance before the end of the year and plans to introduce eSIM for travel. In France, Nickel Pro will also be presented, an account focused on SMEs and self-employed workers.
In the field of AI, Nickel will allocate resources to improve customer service through this technology, to strengthen security systems, and to integrate artificial intelligence-based processes into product development teams.
Although colloquially referred to as a neobank, Nickel does not have a banking license and operates as a payment entity. Nevertheless, it offers essential financial services, such as accounts with IBAN, cards, and the ability to make payments. It also allows cash withdrawals at tobacconists or lottery administrations, where accounts can also be opened.
