Telefónica, through its brands Movistar and O2, consolidates itself as the reference operator in the Spanish market in average download speed both in mobile networks and in fiber optic to the home (FTTH), widening the distance against its rivals, according to the latest quarterly service quality data released by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC).

The regulator's report records for Telefónica's fourth generation (4G) mobile service (Movistar and O2) an average download speed of 59.3 megabits per second (Mbps), placing it 5 Mbps above the next operator. Regarding the symmetrical fiber of 1 gigabit per second (Gbps), it reaches 933.4 Mbps, with an advantage of 13 Mbps over the second-ranked, confirming its leadership position in data download speeds, both in its fixed FTTH network and in the 4G mobile network.

The document also highlights Telefónica as a reference in low latency --the exact delay time in data transmission-- in FTTH, and points it out as the most agile company in resolving faults in fixed service, as well as in processing complaints in mobile service.

Recognitions from studies and independent institutions

These indicators support the leadership of Telefónica's network to access the most advanced technology, a point confirmed by various studies and independent organizations.

In this line, Opensignal has highlighted Movistar as the brand with the best mobile network in Spain in its report on mobile network experience.

This recognition is joined by those awarded by the measurement platforms Ookla and nPerf, which endorse Movistar as the best mobile and fifth generation (5G) network in Spain after excelling in its download, upload, and browsing speeds.

Likewise, the Spanish Consumers Association has concluded that Movistar has the mobile network with the best coverage and overall experience in Spain, while the Internet Users Association places the brand in first position in overall broadband quality.
