The Ibex closes with an increase of 0.8% and is at the doors of a new historical record.

The Spanish selective has reached a new intraday high of 19,913.9 points, favored by the drop in oil and the pause in hostilities between the United States and Iran. Santander, Inditex, BBVA, and Telefónica have closed higher, while Repsol has suffered from the decline in crude.

The Ibex 35 has started the week with gains and has closed this Monday's session with a rise of 0.80%, up to 19,741.3 points, after having approached during the day the psychological barrier of 20,000 points.

The index has reached a new intraday historical maximum of 19,913.9 points, although it has lost some momentum in the final stretch of trading. So far in 2026, the Spanish selective has accumulated a revaluation close to 13%.

The session has been marked by the strong correction of oil. The barrel of Brent has fallen by more than 7% and has settled around 90 dollars, after the United States and Iran have temporarily interrupted the attacks and allowed diplomatic channels to advance. The easing has momentarily reduced the fear that the rise in energy prices will again pressure inflation.

Santander and Inditex support the Ibex

Among the companies with the highest capitalization and most followed by small shareholders, Banco Santander has stood out with a rise of 2.30%, up to 12.256 euros. The bank has been one of the stocks that has contributed the most to the index's advance due to its high weight within the Ibex.

BBVA has also recorded a positive evolution, advancing 1.49%, up to 23.20 euros. Banco Sabadell, for its part, has added 1.34%, coinciding with the start of a share buyback program for a maximum amount of 331 million euros.

The day has been especially favorable for Inditex, which has gained 1.87% and closed at 55.48 euros. The company has benefited from the upgrade recommendation made by Barclays, which has raised its price target to 62.5 euros per share.

The British firm believes that the textile group has the capacity to increase its sales, protect its margins, and gain market share, although it acknowledges that the company is trading with a demanding valuation compared to the overall Spanish stock market. The next important reference will come on September 9, when Inditex presents its second-quarter results.

Telefónica rises, Iberdrola remains stable, and Repsol falls

Telefónica has advanced 1.63%, up to 3.657 euros, while Iberdrola has barely changed, with a rise of 0.09% and a close at 21.23 euros.

CaixaBank has ended practically flat, with a decrease of 0.07%, while Repsol has fallen by 1.08%, down to 25.54 euros. The oil company has suffered the opposite effect to that of the market as a whole: the drop in crude prices reduces inflationary pressure and favors the stock market, but harms the revenue expectations of energy companies linked to oil.

Among the most bullish stocks of the day, Indra has led the gains with an advance of 5.06%, followed by Amadeus, which has risen by 3.28%, and Logista, with 2.86%.

On the opposite end, ACS has been the most punished stock, with a drop of 5.06%. Acciona has given up 2.02% and Solaria has lost 1.92%.
