The Association of Those Responsible for Railway Traffic has shown firm support for its colleague involved in the train accident in Urda, in which at least 69 people have died, and has censured both his public appearance and the dissemination of recordings a few hours after the tragedy.

"We also want to express our unconditional support for our traffic-responsible colleague and we categorically reject the allegations and public trial to which he is being subjected," they said in a statement.

In relation to the leak of the audio recordings, the group recalls that these conversations are protected by the Data Protection Law and the Criminal Procedure Law, and that access to and use of them should be limited to the tasks of supervision, control, and investigation of railway accidents.

"This is not the first time that, illegally, these recordings are leaked and widely disseminated; for this reason, we are under the obligation to demand a fair process with all guarantees," the document states.

Along these same lines, those responsible for railway traffic emphasize that they "fully" trust the ongoing investigations to clarify what happened and reiterate their support for the carrying out of the compensation that corresponds to the victims.

The railway traffic group also stresses that, given the "questionable" working conditions and with the aim of safeguarding safety in train traffic and in maneuvers, it reserves the option to initiate the legal and union actions it deems necessary, as well as the mobilizations it considers appropriate.

Lastly, they convey their condolences to the families of the victims and, especially, to the families of fellow sector colleagues who have been directly affected by this accident.
