The spokesperson of the Tenants' Union, Enric Aragonès, has made it public that a concentration has been organized this Monday at 7:00 PM in front of the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, in Barcelona, to demand the automatic renewal of rental contracts, taking advantage of the presence of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
In statements to the media this Sunday, Aragonès detailed that the housing decree that the Executive plans to bring to the Council of Ministers this Tuesday should incorporate the automatic renewal of contracts, as well as other provisions aimed at stopping evictions in cases of vulnerability.
"These 48 hours that remain are key. We call on all Catalans who are fed up with this situation to say it to his face, to make it clear that we will not accept a farce," he stated, referring to the President of the Executive.
The spokesperson urged citizens to join the protest on Monday to "make it clear" to the PSOE and Sumar that any decree approved on Tuesday that does not include the measures defended by the unions will, in his opinion, be a farce.
Rules out camping in Barcelona
As part of the preparation for the mobilization, Aragonès also announced the holding of an event this Sunday afternoon on Entença Street 69, where Rosario, a neighbor of a block that, as she has reported, has filled with 'colivings' and is facing a possible eviction, resides.
"We have Maricarmen everywhere with many names and faces," Aragonès pointed out in reference to the 87-year-old woman evicted in Madrid last week.
Asked whether they are considering setting up camps in Barcelona, as has happened this weekend in Madrid, Aragonès rejected this option and emphasized that the fundamental thing is to clearly convey the message to Sánchez, pointing out that "the best way to do it is with a protest in front of the Palau de Congressos."
