Zamora will be the setting, from June 14 to 16, for the first edition of the International Congress of Bread and Flour, an event promoted by Caja Rural de Zamora and Grupo Vocento, with the support of the Junta de Castilla y León, the Provincial Council, and the City Council. This meeting will serve as a prelude to PanFest, a major event whose first edition will see the light of day in 2027.

The official presentation of the congress was held this Monday at the headquarters of Caja Rural de Zamora, with the participation of representatives from all the institutions involved in a project that is born with the objective of consolidating the city as the capital of bread. PanFest aims, precisely, to position the Zamorano capital as a global reference within this sector.

In this regard, the general director of Caja Rural de Zamora, Cipriano García, has highlighted the relevance of the initiative for the credit cooperative and has defended the need to support proposals that "mean an improvement in all areas" for the province.

For his part, the president of the Provincial Council, Javier Faúndez, has emphasized the role of PanFest as a complement to Fromago in odd-numbered years, while the deputy mayor, David Gago, has stressed the importance of "putting bread and flour in the forefront."

Next, the representatives of Vocento, Benjamín Lana and Félix Rivadulla, were in charge of detailing the congress program. Both have claimed the dimension of the event and the overall PanFest project, and have announced the attendance of "50 key figures from all over Spain and from other countries" during the days of June 14, 15, and 16 in Zamora.

World Tripe Championship and Gastronomic Program

On Sunday, June 14, the first day of the international congress, the Plaza Mayor of Zamora will be the setting for the ninth world tripe championship, in which a finalist from the province will participate. On the same day, a popular tapas event will also be held with chefs from Aurelia, Lasal, el Cuzeo, La Becera, GH de Luz, the hospitality school, and La Yagona, all of them Zamorano restaurants.

From Monday onwards, the main development of the activities will move to the Teatro Principal and the Salón de Plenos of the Diputación de Zamora. Prominent figures from the bread-making world will gather there, such as Iban Yarza, who will receive the first PanFest award, along with international names such as the Georgian Zaza Ivanidze.

Regarding the content of the sessions, it is planned that the debate will address bread and flour from multiple perspectives: from the raw material to the final elaboration, without forgetting their symbolic dimension and their role in the markets.
