ASISA Foundation has granted the aids of its first call aimed at promoting research and social projects. In this edition, five research works in the field of health and five social initiatives have been financed, each with 6,000 euros, which represents a total allocation of 60,000 euros.
The foundation has explained that these aids arise with the purpose of reinforcing scientific knowledge, supporting innovation in the healthcare system, and assisting interventions that contribute to improving the quality of life of the population, with special attention to people in situations of greater vulnerability.
Health research projects
In the research category, the projects led by Macarena Espinilla, focused on the application of artificial intelligence for the early detection of clinical and cognitive deterioration in university environments; and Óscar Rapado, dedicated to the development of an epigenetic signature in liquid biopsy for the stratification of the risk of hidden lymph node metastases in oral cancer, have been selected.
Similarly, the research of Adrián Mosquera, aimed at validating an artificial intelligence tool to improve secure access to clinical knowledge in oncohematology; Isabel María Barceló, on the resistance mechanism of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in otitis media; and Unai Elordi, for the development of a clinical decision support system for the early detection of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus through video analytics and artificial intelligence, has been recognized.
Support for social initiatives
In the social field, the aids have gone to the Association of Cerebral Palsy Patients of Alicante (APCA), aimed at the acquisition of technical resources for the Infanta Elena residence; and to Menudos Corazones, for a comprehensive support program for the development of minors with congenital heart diseases.
Support has also been given to the Association of People with Cerebral Palsy (ASPACE) of Badajoz, for the project "Neuro Impulsa"; to Autism Quality of Life (AUCAVI), for a proposal for the social and labor inclusion of young people and adults with autism; and to the Brothers Workers of Mary Foundation, for an initiative to improve hygiene and promote health among adolescents.
All selected projects must be executed within a maximum period of one year and will be subject to a monitoring system that will allow evaluating the degree of compliance with the proposed objectives and the proper use of the granted resources.
Next edition scheduled for 2027
The secretary of the Governing Council of Lavinia-ASISA and delegate of ASISA in Barcelona, Antonia Solvas, has closed the award ceremony on behalf of the president of the ASISA Foundation, Francisco Ivorra, and has emphasized that the reason for these aids is to make it possible for good ideas aimed at improving people's lives to materialize.
Likewise, she has confirmed the continuity of the program by announcing that the entity is working to launch the second edition in January 2027, with the intention of progressively expanding its scope and supporting new research and social action projects each year.
The event has been organized and conducted by the director of Planning and Development of ASISA, María Tormo. The presidential table has included, in addition to Antonia Solvas, the vice president of Lavinia-ASISA and delegate of ASISA in Seville, Gregorio Medina, as well as the medical general director of the ASISA Group, José Vilella.
