Multiple Sclerosis Spain (EME) has commemorated its 30th anniversary by underlining its "commitment to people with multiple sclerosis, their rights and research," a work that today is structured through a state network made up of 37 associations and foundations whose mission is to "improve the quality of life" of those living with the disease.
At this commemorative event, the president of the organization, Francisco Del Vas, recalled that "during these three decades, we have worked to give visibility to the disease, defend the rights of the group and promote research," while recognizing that "there are still important challenges ahead." Likewise, he stressed that "our commitment is to keep working so that people with multiple sclerosis have the support they need, have their rights guaranteed and can face the future with more opportunities and hope".
EME, recognized as a Public Utility entity, develops direct care programs and awareness campaigns, placing scientific research among its central lines of action. In this area, it has launched projects such as the "M1 Project", aimed at deepening knowledge of multiple sclerosis and advancing new therapeutic responses. Thanks to this initiative, 1,893,018 euros have been channeled through the "Call for grants for Research and support for the International Alliance of Progressive MS".
In parallel, and taking advantage of its presence in the executive bodies of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF, by its acronym in English) and the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP, also by its acronym in English), the organization maintains five major strategic lines active. The first focuses on guaranteeing social protection, access to treatments and the indispensable support for affected people.
Alongside this, EME advocates promoting the associative movement; strengthens communication, awareness and knowledge management; promotes continued support for research; and works for the sustainability and growth of Multiple Sclerosis Spain, reinforcing its internal capacity to sustain its programs, consolidate its network of alliances and continue advancing in the fulfillment of its founding mission.
