Roche Farma España, together with the Spanish Federation of Hemophilia (FEDHEMO), has launched "The ABC of Hemophilia," an initiative that seeks to resolve in a simple, rigorous, and understandable way the most common questions that citizens ask on the Internet about this rare disease.
The campaign focuses on basic questions such as what hemophilia is, the different types that exist, what its symptoms are, how the diagnosis is confirmed, and what role patient associations play. To this end, several informative videos have been produced in which some of the most frequently asked questions about this pathology are answered in a clear and approachable way.
In one of these audiovisual pieces, the hematologist from the University Hospital of Guadalajara, Sonia Herrero, details what hemophilia consists of, how it alters blood coagulation, and what aspects generate more uncertainty among the general population.
"That one of the most searched questions continues to be 'what is hemophilia' shows that there is still a significant need for basic and rigorous information about this disease. Hemophilia is a rare pathology that affects blood coagulation, and knowledge of it is key to understanding its possible manifestations and avoiding misconceptions about how it affects those who live with it," Herrero emphasized.
The campaign also incorporates the voice of the president of the Spanish Federation of Hemophilia, Daniel-Aníbal García, who focuses on the work of patient associations in providing information, offering guidance, accompanying, and representing people with hemophilia and their closest environment.
"For people with hemophilia and their families, having clear and reliable information is fundamental. At FEDHEMO, we work to accompany, guide, and represent the patient community, but also to contribute to society better understanding the disease. Initiatives like 'The ABC of Hemophilia' help answer frequent questions and bring the reality of this pathology closer to the general population," he explained.
A highly searched pathology online, but still little known
According to the latest nationwide study conducted by Roche Farma Spain in collaboration with FEDHEMO on the level of knowledge about hemophilia, in recent years 52 percent of the population claims to have heard of this disease and to have some information about it, while 33 percent admits to knowing nothing beyond its name.
For Roche Farma, these figures show that many of the doubts that persist among citizens are still very basic and refer to what exactly this disorder is, who it can affect, how it manifests itself, or what consequences it has for those who live with it and for their families.
"The ABC of Hemophilia" has been designed to answer questions that are already being asked on the Internet, but offering content developed with scientific rigor and adapted to a divulgative language that is understandable to anyone.
"This growing interest in hemophilia on the internet reflects that society is looking for answers, but it also highlights the importance of these answers coming from reliable sources. With this initiative, we want to contribute to improving social knowledge of this rare disease, offering accessible, verified content developed together with healthcare professionals and patient representatives," said Mariluz Amador, medical director of Roche Farma Spain.
