The Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) has indicated that, for now, it has no news that attendees at its National Congress in Sevilla are among the injured in the collision between two trains that occurred this Wednesday between Mora and Urda (Toledo).
As sources from this scientific society explained to Europa Press, they do not have information confirming that any of the people who were scheduled to attend the meeting, scheduled from this Thursday, October 29, until Saturday the 31st, has been affected by the railway accident. Likewise, they have not been able to verify whether any congress attendee was traveling on the convoys involved in the accident.
The congress is maintaining for now its holding on the set dates and with the planned program, with the participation of specialists from different parts of Spain and other countries, at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Sevilla. Due to this, members of the Board of Directors of the SEC and of the Casa del Corazón were this morning at the Estación de Atocha (Madrid) to travel by train to the Andalusian capital, a plan that has been altered and that will finally be carried out by bus.
This means of transport will be, in principle, the main alternative to reorganize the planned travel in the next few hours, while the Congress organization shapes the new logistical arrangement. In this context, the option of introducing specific adjustments to the program of activities designed for these days is being considered, at an event in which the presence of some 4,000 people is expected.
"We are dismayed by the railway accident in Urda (Toledo) and we want to show all our support to the affected people, as well as to their family members and loved ones," the entity has stated through its website, through which it is informing about the changes made.
