MÉS per Mallorca has claimed this Thursday from the central Government a decrease in the volume of flights at the airports of the Balearic Islands in light of a growth that they consider "unsustainable".
The ecosovereignist deputy in the Parliament, Ferran Rosa, has detailed in a press conference that his party has registered a non-legislative proposal to urge the central Executive to limit the number of air operations, also covering private jets.
Rosa has specified that the proposal also includes the request to halt the expansion works of the airports in the archipelago and to cut the opening hours of the facilities in order to reduce the effects and inconveniences suffered by the neighborhoods close to the airport infrastructures.
The ecosovereignist parliamentarian has emphasized that he trusts that all groups in the Chamber will support this initiative, including the PP, given that, as he has recalled, this party "has also complained about the number of flights" operating at the airports of the Islands.
At the same time, MÉS per Mallorca has criticized Aena's airport policy, which it has described as "colonial" because it "only thinks about the benefit of its shareholders" and the "distribution of dividends." In this context, he has pointed out that last year the Balearic Islands received around 46 million passengers and has warned that, according to forecasts for this year, that figure will increase again.
Rosa has accused Aena of exceeding the annual passenger cap set for each airport in the Islands and has added that there is an increase in illegal tourist offerings, since "the tourist places are not increasing, but these visitors are sleeping somewhere."
