The authorities of the United States have opened an investigation after the accident of a private plane that crashed this Sunday with nine people on board over a residential area of Palm Beach County, in Florida.

The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board are already working to clarify what happened.

The crashed aircraft was a private Learjet 60 that was flying to Bahamas from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to the FAA.

The plane descended about 8,230 meters in a minute, just before the flight tracking data were interrupted, according to the website ADS-B Exchange.

The site of the accident is about 6.4 kilometers south of West Palm Beach airport, renamed earlier this year as Donald Trump Airport in honor of the current American president.

Trump himself was in West Palm Beach this very Sunday, but departed from the airport aboard Air Force One an hour before the accident.
