The Government of Australia has reported this Friday that two Australian citizens were on board the trains involved in Wednesday's railway accident in the province of Toledo, and has underlined that it maintains coordination with local authorities to try to find their whereabouts and learn what their current situation is.

A spokesperson for the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated in statements to Europa Press that the department "is providing consular assistance to the family of two Australians in connection with the collision", before adding that "Australian officials are working with local authorities to confirm their condition".

"Due to privacy obligations, we cannot give more details", he has pointed out, in the context of efforts to determine whether there are more Australian citizens among those affected. "Our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, the injured and all those affected by the train collision in Spain", which left at least 69 dead, according to the latest count.
