The President of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, reported this Friday the death of three alleged members of the Clan del Golfo and the capture of another member during an operation by the National Police of Colombia as part of the operation "Agamenón". The intervention took place in a rural area of the municipality of San Martín, in the department of Cesar, in the north of the country.
The operation focused on the structure known as Nelson Darío Hurtado Simanca, associated with this criminal gang, and made it possible to seize seven rifles, 35 grenades, 1,200 rounds of different calibers, a drone, and various quartermaster supplies.
The authorities have described this action as a new "blow" against the armed potential and the territorial expansion capacity of the Clan del Golfo, as well as against its "criminal corridors," in particular those used for trafficking narcotics in the Atlantic Coast region.
When making public the results of the operation, De la Espriella praised the work of the officers who intervened and reiterated his determination to maintain pressure on criminal organizations.
"We will continue acting with all the determination of the State to recover security and protect Colombians," he said in a message shared on social media, where he also issued a warning of firmness against these groups, emphasizing that "there will not be a single corner of Colombia where they can hide from the legitimate action of the State".
