The authorities of Cuba have reported this Friday a new widespread outage in the National Electroenergetic System (SEN), confirming that it has lost service throughout the territory and that work is already underway to restore it.
"There has been a total disconnection of the Electrical System. Protocols for recovery are beginning to be activated," the Ministry of Energy and Mines has stated in a brief statement disseminated on social media after 14:00 hours (local time, 20:00 in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands).
The Electric Union of Cuba, which has also reported on this blackout, has specified that investigations have begun "immediately" to determine the origin of the fault.
So far this year, Cuba has experienced several large-scale power outages that have left the entire island without electricity. The Cuban government attributes these problems to the energy blockade by the United States, which in January warned of the imposition of tariffs on any country that sells or supplies oil to the Caribbean nation.
