The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, communicated this Wednesday that preventive detention has been decreed for a man already investigated for drug possession and for threats, after the Attorney General announced the day before his arrest for "threatening the First Lady of the Nation, Ana Lucía Pineda Aruachán," in a virtual manner. The president specified that the same individual also directed his threats against his children.

"On October 18, 2026, at 10:12 hours (local time), a criminal threatened to kill my wife and my children. At 12:23 on that same day, the complaint was filed. On October 19, at 23:57, the raid and capture of the responsible party was carried out," De la Espriella has recounted in a social media post in which he highlighted that, "during the raid, the authorities found a significant amount of marijuana in the possession of the captured individual."

According to the head of State, "the Attorney General charged him with the crimes of trafficking, manufacturing or possession of narcotics (article 376 of the Penal Code) and threats against human rights defenders and public servants (article 188E)," before specifying that "this subject has just been covered with a preventive measure of deprivation of liberty and must respond before Justice."

In the same message, where he emphasizes that "death threats against any Colombian family are intolerable," De la Espriella attaches the link to the telematic hearing in which the judge of the case states that "he agrees to the request made by the Attorney General to impose a preventive measure of deprivation of liberty in a detention facility."

The Colombian Attorney General had informed on Tuesday of the capture of the "alleged responsible for virtually threatening the First Lady of the Nation, Ana Lucía Pineda Aruachán," through a statement in which it detailed that, during the operation, a computer and a mobile phone with "relevant information to advance in verification activities" were seized.

However, the written statement from the Public Ministry did not mention the alleged drugs intervened to which De la Espriella refers, who accompanies his post with a photograph of the suspect next to seven small transparent plastic bags placed on a sheet and which, according to the president, would contain marijuana.
