The authorities of Iran reported this Wednesday the death of four members of the Revolutionary Guard during the bombings launched last night by forces from the United States and Saudi Arabia against several areas of Iraq.
According to the semi-official news agency Mehr, the four belonged to the city of Kashan, in the central province of Isfahan, in the heart of the Persian country.
The deceased lost their lives in an attack by U.S. and Saudi forces on the city of Karbala, in central Iraq. In addition, offensives were recorded in the provinces of Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, and Diyala.
According to the aforementioned agency, the agents were in Karbala to ensure the safety of citizens during the Arbain pilgrimage, a festival in which the city can host more than 20 million Shia faithful.
At least 20 people have lost their lives and more than thirty have been injured as a result of these attacks, directed against facilities of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), pro-Iranian militias legally integrated into the Iraqi Army, although not merged with the regular Armed Forces and operating as a separate military arm, with its own chain of command and state budget.
However, several of its factions have already begun processes to hand over their weapons to the State, in response to pressure exerted by both the central Government and various international actors.
