The president of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamed Baqer Qalibaf, expressed this Wednesday his satisfaction with China's stance regarding the "economic war" launched earlier this week by the Trump Administration against Tehran.
In a message disseminated on his social networks, Qalibaf, who also heads the Iranian negotiating team in talks with the United States, indicated: "We welcome China's statement of principles in which it rejects the illegal sanctions against Iran."
The Iranian leader has described the ties between Tehran and Beijing as a "strategic partnership" based on mutual respect and "beneficial" cooperation for both parties, also emphasizing in the same message that this relationship "does not need anyone's permission."
For its part, the Chinese government has warned that it will take "all necessary measures" to "firmly protect its legitimate rights and interests" against any U.S. action directed against the Asian giant for its economic and trade exchanges with Iran, after Washington threatened sanctions against those who maintain ties with Tehran in the context of this "economic war" against the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian giant has insisted that these initiatives "lack a basis in International Law and do not have authorization from the United Nations Security Council," thus labeling them as "illegal."
The decision by Washington comes, moreover, after the expiration of the 60-day deadline that the United States and Tehran had granted themselves to reach a global agreement to end the conflict triggered by the U.S.-Israeli offensive that began on February 28. However, the delegations have not managed to seal an understanding, which fuels fears of a possible outbreak of a new large-scale confrontation.
