Meta has reached an agreement of up to 16.680 million dollars to resolve the lawsuits of 29 states of the United States that accused the company of designing Facebook and Instagram to encourage addictive use among children and adolescents, deceiving about the safety of its platforms, and improperly collecting personal data from minors.
The deal was closed during the federal trial that was being held in California and prevents one of the most important proceedings opened in the United States regarding the effects of social media among young people from reaching a verdict.
Meta does not acknowledge having committed any irregularity as part of the agreement. The company has rejected the states' accusations during the process and has defended the measures introduced in recent years to protect minors.
