The Government of Mexico communicated this Sunday that one of its citizens continues to be missing after the railway accident recorded last October 28 in Urda, in the province of Toledo, a disaster that, according to the latest official count, leaves so far 69 dead.

In a statement released by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is detailed that twelve people of Mexican nationality were involved in the incident, of whom eleven presented "minor injuries" and have already been discharged after receiving medical attention.

"In relation to the case of a fellow countryman whose whereabouts have not yet been confirmed, the following is informed: The Spanish authorities continue with their search and identification", the Ministry has indicated, underscoring that the proceedings remain open.

The Embassy of Mexico in Spain maintains close coordination with the Spanish authorities to "closely follow the evolution of the events" and to be aware of any news about the situation of the affected people.

The statement also emphasizes that an official from the Consular Section of the Embassy has gone to Toledo to "continue accompanying his family member and provide the necessary support". "The Embassy will provide economic support to the relatives during their stay in Spain and keeps the consular protection protocol active", it has added.

"The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its firm commitment to the defense and protection of Mexican women and men abroad", concludes the official note released by the Mexican authorities.
