The Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat of Mexico has initiated an investigation ex officio for the alleged leak of a database from the airline Aeroméxico that would contain more than 15 million customer records, after detecting a sample of over 100,000 records that include public officials and well-known individuals.
"The Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat, within the framework of an active forensic monitoring of possible security incidents, identified indications of a possible exposure of personal data in a system that could be related to Aeroméxico," the Secretariat explained in a statement.
The investigation focuses on a publication disseminated on September 18 on the Telegram network, where a user claims to have a database from Aeroméxico with more than 15 million records. This information would include full name, email address, phone number, mobile number, date of birth, and registration date of the customers.
"This Secretariat will analyze the data obtained during the monitoring to initiate ex officio an investigation that allows determining the alleged responsibility regarding the compromised databases," it explained.
The institution has added that, if a judicial procedure is ultimately opened, "the authority will act with strict adherence to the law and in protection of the public interest," it emphasized.
