The Sultan of Oman, Haitham Bin Tariq al Busaid, and the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, met this Tuesday in Jeddah to analyze the regional situation and study possible "solutions" that would allow progress towards peace in the Middle East, amid the 'impasse' of the conflict in Iran.
According to the official Omani agency ONA, during the meeting in Saudi Arabia both leaders "exchanged views on the latest developments in the most relevant current issues, as well as on the solutions that would allow achieving calm and peace, ensuring the security of countries and peoples, and preserving their economies and interests."
Oman and Saudi Arabia have played a relevant role in recent months in mediation efforts to reduce tension in the Persian Gulf, in a context where the focus of the crisis is situated in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Muscat is maintaining bilateral talks with Tehran regarding the management of this key maritime passage for the transit of hydrocarbons.
In terms of relations between both countries, the meeting also served to address "the deep-rooted fraternal relations," as well as the ways to promote them in different areas with the aim of favoring shared interests, according to the same source.
The words of the leaders come in a scenario marked by the stagnation of the war, while Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian has urged to resume the memorandum of understanding mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, emphasizing that Tehran "will immediately adopt reciprocal actions" if the United States "returns to its commitments."
