The authorities of Qatar have described this Tuesday as "unilateral" the sanctions announced by the United States against Iran in the context of a new stage of the conflict, emphasizing that Doha maintains its support for a negotiated solution to the crisis.
In a press conference, the spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mayed al Ansari, whose country has acted as a mediator alongside Pakistan and Turkey in the crisis shaking the Gulf region, has emphasized that the U.S. sanctions are "unilateral," so Doha will continue to support mediation efforts to channel the situation through dialogue.
Regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a focal point of tensions between Washington and Tehran, he has pointed out that this strategic step must restore the conditions prior to the crisis and reestablish full freedom of navigation, a demand that Doha has been conveying to Iran.
On the possible regional extension of the war, following Iran's attacks on military targets in neighboring countries, Al Ansari has insisted that there is full coordination among the Gulf states to face potential scenarios of military escalation, stressing that any attempt to transform the conflict into a regional war will be rejected.
