The Chief of Government of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, has joined the chorus of congratulations coming from the international right directed at the president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, after his victory in the elections held last Sunday against what was shaping up to be one of the main reactionary references abroad, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.

"I want to express my most sincere congratulations to the president of Brazil for his reelection," Takaichi has stated on her social media, following in the footsteps of figures such as the Chilean José Antonio Kast, the Colombian Abelardo de la Espriella, or the Peruvian Keiko Fujimori.

Takaichi is confident that "President Lula will continue to guide Brazil with his strong leadership" and has reiterated her willingness to maintain and strengthen bilateral cooperation, starting by promoting the discussions of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Mercosur and Japan, whose negotiations were launched on June 30.
