The United States Army Department has established December 3 as the date for the execution by firing squad of former commander and military psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan, sentenced to death for murdering thirteen people and injuring another 32 at the Fort Hood military base in Texas in 2009.

According to the execution order released by the acting Army Secretary, Adam Telle, the capital punishment will be carried out at 1:00 PM (local time) at the Fort Hood facilities, the same place where the massacre occurred. The official document details that the procedure will be carried out by a firing squad and will be under the responsibility of the commander of the United States Disciplinary Barracks, fulfilling a sentence whose final approval by the country's president, Donald Trump, occurred on October 2, 2025.

The setting of the date and location closes a prolonged judicial and military journey that has extended for almost 17 years. On November 5, 2009, Hasan opened fire on unarmed military personnel at what was then the largest U.S. military base while shouting "Allahu Akbar" (transliteration into English of the expression "Allah is great" in Arabic). The attacker, a Muslim American citizen, became paraplegic as a result of the gunfire received from security forces when he was subdued.

The signing of this order by Telle makes effective the decision previously announced by the Department of Defense, after the current Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, formally recommended applying the death penalty by firing squad to Hasan, whom the U.S. government has officially described in its communications as a "terrorist" and "jihadist."
