The president of the United States, Donald Trump, received this Thursday Xi Jinping at the White House, in the first state visit of the Chinese president to Washington in more than a decade. The meeting reunites the leaders of the two largest economies in the world at a time marked by differences over tariffs, artificial intelligence, rare earths, Taiwan, and the Iran war.
Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, have arrived at the White House for the official welcome ceremony, where they were received by Trump and Melania Trump. The visit will last until Friday and includes, in addition to political talks, a state dinner this Thursday night.
"President Xi and I will continue to work together to forge a better future for our two nations," Trump stated during the reception, according to EFE. The immediate goal of Washington and Beijing is to maintain a stabilized relationship that continues to be marked by significant economic and strategic disputes.
