At least two Russian soldiers have lost their lives in an attack attributed to the Ukrainian Army against several tanker trucks transporting fuel intended for the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, controlled by Russia in the context of the invasion of Ukraine, according to Rosatom.
The director of Rosatom, Alexei Likachev, explained that the attacks were carried out on Friday against these vehicles and emphasized that "two military personnel died and a large number of soldiers were injured, including some seriously."
Likachev also insisted that the victims were part of "an operation supporting a purely civilian mission" and highlighted that the actions took place in the vicinity of the perimeter of the atomic plant, according to information released by the Russian news agency Interfax.
Russian authorities have repeatedly accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine of attacking the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, and its nearby areas, warning of the potential risk of a nuclear accident, while Kiev blames Moscow for such episodes.
On the other hand, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reiterated its call to put an end to any military action against the nuclear power plant — the largest on the European continent — due to the dangers it poses to nuclear safety and the population.
