The Government of the United Arab Emirates has denounced this Tuesday new attacks launched by Iran against its territory, in an episode that raises regional tension despite the ceasefire in effect between Tehran and the United States.

The Emirati Ministry of Defense has assured that its systems are intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, whose impacts have been perceived by the population in different areas of the country. "The sounds that are heard [...] are the result of the interceptions," it indicated in an official statement.

The attacks occur despite the truce in effect since last April 8, which casts doubt on the stability of the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran.

New attacks

It is not the first recent incident. The authorities of the United Arab Emirates reported on Monday the neutralization of three missiles launched from Iranian territory, while a fourth projectile reportedly ended up in the sea. It was the first incident of this nature since the ceasefire came into effect at the beginning of April.

The Ministry of Defense explained through its official accounts that “four cruise missiles originating from Iran heading towards the country have been detected; three of them have been successfully intercepted over the country's territorial waters and the fourth has fallen into the sea”.

In the same statement, the Ministry of Defense specified that “the noises heard in various areas of the country are the consequence of the successful interception of aerial threats”.

In recent months, the Emirates has become one of the main targets of Iran's regional reprisals, after the attack carried out on February 28 by United States and Israeli forces, in which the then supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, lost his life, along with other senior Iranian officials.
