The Armed Forces of the United States reported this Sunday that they have forced a total of 55 commercial vessels to change their course, in addition to putting two vessels out of service and boarding two others, in the context of the naval blockade they maintain over the ports and coastline of Iran.
"As of August 9, the Central Command of the United States Army (CENTCOM) has diverted 55 commercial vessels, disabled two, and boarded two," the military authority announced in a message on social media in which it framed its actions in operations aimed at enforcing the aforementioned blockade.
In this same statement, the Central Command detailed that it has "more than 20" U.S. warships deployed in the Middle East with the objective of "supporting military missions, including the strict enforcement of the blockade" imposed by Washington against Tehran.
On the other hand, this Saturday the Supreme National Security Council of Iran insisted that it will only allow the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz when it verifies the end of U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq, as well as the lifting of sanctions weighing on the Iranian economy and the payment of compensation for war damages.
Nevertheless, last week the Iranian Foreign Affairs spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, already reported a preliminary agreement with Oman to jointly manage a new maritime route through the strait.
