The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has conveyed this Monday his congratulations to the Brazilian leader, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for the victory obtained this Sunday in the presidential elections of Brazil, emphasizing the relevance of the country "remaining active" in the international agenda and maintaining its support for Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"We congratulate President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for his remarkable electoral results (...) for us in Ukraine, it is important that Brazil continues to be active in international affairs and continues to contribute to the effective protection of Human Rights, the rights of peoples, and the rights of States," he pointed out in a message in which he acknowledges that the elections have been "intense" and followed worldwide due to the confrontation between Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the former president.

In this context, Zelensky has recalled the support shown by Brazil during Lula's previous term for "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine" and has emphasized his desire to "expand cooperation" with the South American power.

The electoral commission has ratified Lula's victory in these presidential elections with 51.77% of valid votes, compared to 48.23% garnered by the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, according to data corresponding to 99.89% of the count, and with a turnout close to 80.8%. With this result, Lula enters the political history of Brazil by reversing the outcome of the first round and becoming the first president to succeed in the second round after having been behind in the first.
