The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has rejected backing the vote by mail ahead of the general elections on 29 November, considering that it does not have "the capacity to tell Spaniards that this vote is going to be safeguarded".
"In no way am I going to defend the integrity of the vote by mail," he said during an interview on the program 'El gato al agua', as reported by Europa Press, where he reiterated his call to citizens to make an "extraordinary effort" and vote in person at the polling stations.
In this context, he has emphasized that it will not be him who encourages "to take the train" or to opt for the vote by mail because of keeping a "very responsible" discourse or because of "institutional reasons". "Therefore, I believe that before this government the conscious, patriotic and reasonable attitude is the attitude of distrust," Abascal stressed.
The president of Vox also pointed out that the party will do "everything possible" to "try to monitor so that there is no kind of fraud and that 'the one who has no choice but to,' can exercise this right by post." Even so, he urged voters to "postpone everything", including "family get-togethers, "hobbies" and "trips", because "what is going to be voted on will mark the future of Spain in the coming years".
"The truth is that I believe that a mass mobilization is impossible to stop. There is no trick, there is no violence that can prevent it. And that mobilization, from our point of view, is happening," he concluded.
