The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has insisted that his party defends the payment of pensions and has rejected that it is trying to privatize them, something he attributes to an artificial debate promoted by the Executive. "Pensions are at risk and they will stop being paid if Pedro Sánchez continues in power," he said.
"I am in favor of pensions being paid, of the acquired rights of older people being paid in whatever way. The discussion of whether that can be done through one formula or another, I think, is a much more technical than political discussion," he said in an interview in 'El Periódico', collected by Europa Press this Sunday.
In his opinion, the current Government puts the pension system at risk because "it is destroying the private economy" and causing a loss of purchasing power among workers.
"I am not going to commit to one system or another, or to some type of formula that does not exist, that can be proposed, so that there is more income and so that pensions are guaranteed. What I want everyone to know is that I don't care about the system; what matters to me is that pensions are paid. That is what is sacred and that is our commitment," he emphasized.
Rail accident in Urda
Regarding the rail accident in Urda (Toledo), Abascal assured that the resignation of the former Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, did not surprise him, and he has argued that "it was a fuse" for the President of the Government.
"I think corruption kills, just like other political attitudes. I think ideological fanaticism kills, I think migratory invasion kills and brings ruin and lack of prosperity and, in the case of Adif and of Urda, I think there are already too many elements to be very worried and to link corruption with accidents that end up happening," he added.
He also defended that Vox respected the mourning for the victims of the incident despite continuing with its pre-campaign, and he has said that he will not attend the State funeral: "I think families should be allowed to bid farewell to their dead in privacy and I think politicians often only get in the way."
Housing proposals
On housing, Abascal has raised the need to promote the construction of more housing, both public and private, and he has called for "facing up to overregulation and taxes on housing."
"And, on the other hand, I think that the door has to be opened so that those who do not have to be in Spain can leave Spain. I mean, of course, those who are there illegally, who must be repatriated and who occupy homes," he said.
Regarding the plan of the PP president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to build one million homes, he has called it a "tremendous mistake" for setting a specific figure in his promises.
Position on immigration
In relation to immigration, Abascal proposes expelling those who, as he maintains, are in Spain irregularly and "carrying out a complete audit of all social benefits" which, in his opinion, should not be directed to these people.
As for unaccompanied minors who remain in Ceuta, he considers that "the first thing to do is to put them at the border" and hand them over to the Moroccan authorities.
