The Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday a royal decree-law that introduces a structural change in one of the most traditional products of the sports betting system in Spain: the quiniela. From its entry into force, the tickets will incorporate four Liga F matches in each matchday, stably.
Until now, the pool had been focused on men's competitions, mainly from First and Second Division. The inclusion of women's football had occurred sporadically on recent occasions, but without a permanent character.
Economic impact for clubs
One of the main objectives of the measure is to open a new funding stream for Liga F clubs, which will participate in the distribution of income generated by the football pools.
This system, which moves millions of figures each season, will allow a part of those resources to reach women's football, at a time when the competition seeks to consolidate its professional structure and improve its economic sustainability.
More visibility for women's competition
In addition to the economic impact, the Government intends to increase the visibility and following of the Liga F among the general public.
The weekly presence in the lottery introduces the championship matches into a mass consumption circuit, which can translate into greater interest in the matches, the clubs and the players.
Pending validation in Congress
Like any royal decree-law, the rule must be validated by the Congress of Deputies within a maximum period of 30 days to remain in force.
The measure arrives in a context of institutional boost to women's sports and aligns with the principles of equality enshrined in recent sports legislation, particularly after the approval of the new Sports Law.
A historic demand from the sector
The stable inclusion of women's football in the lottery had been claimed for years by different actors in the sector, who considered it necessary to equalize its presence in the financing mechanisms linked to professional sports.
With this decision, the Executive takes another step in the integration of women's football into the major economic and visibility circuits of sport in Spain.
