The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has expressed his support for the residents of A Coruña and the State Security Forces and Corps (FCSE) after the episodes of violence recorded yesterday during the protest called against the rally of the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, in the Herculian city. "Galicia is not like this," he stated.
In a message published this Monday on his X profile, Feijóo conveyed "All support to the people of A Coruña and to the State Security Forces and Corps. They do not deserve this," referring both to the citizens and to the agents deployed to contain the protesters who gathered against Abascal's electoral event in María Pita square.
The popular leader emphasized that "in democracy, violence has no place," after the incidents recorded in the morning resulted in several injuries among protesters and police forces, and that in the afternoon the protests were repeated, which again ended in confrontations.
The evening mobilizations were held under the slogans "against police repression" and "against fascism." Various nationalist groups —BNG, CIG, Galiza Nova, and Erguer— had called for a gathering at 7:30 PM in front of the Government Subdelegation in A Coruña and, at 8:00 PM, the ultra group Riazor Blues had made another call at the same point.
When most of the nearly 2,000 people who participated in the protest had already dispersed, around 9:15 PM, about a hundred protesters remained in the area of the Cantones in A Coruña. At that moment, the police began to dissolve those gathered using batons, while firecrackers were thrown and insults were hurled at the agents.
The group that remained on the street then began a disorderly flight, and some of those who avoided being taken down to the ground overturned containers and set several of them on fire. They also used construction barriers located near the Obelisk to build a kind of barricade, with which they tried to block the advance of police vehicles.
