The president of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, has expressed her rejection of the central Executive transferring to the autonomous communities the responsibilities that, in her opinion, correspond to it in the management of the crisis opened in Ceuta.
Through a message disseminated on the social network X, Guardiola has stated that the Government of Pedro Sánchez "cannot impose on the autonomous communities" the "how to face a situation that it has not been able to foresee."
In the same vein, the regional leader has emphasized that "Extremadura rejects this drift that only aims to transfer to the regions the responsibilities that correspond to the Government," insisting that the Executive should first assume its role.
Guardiola argues that "before imposing" the Government should manage. "And the most important thing, act so that no more lives are lost," she added in her post.
Likewise, she has stressed that "Ceuta has every right to receive the resources that correspond to it in a critical moment and the government of the Junta de Extremadura firmly supports it. The State must guarantee security and territorial integrity," demanding a state response commensurate with the situation.
In her message, she also emphasized that "this is not about confronting territories, nor seeking fractures to mask problems. This consists of facing the situation with humanity, seriousness, and a firm voice," calling to avoid confrontation between regions.
These statements come after the Junta de Extremadura has communicated that it will not participate in the Sectorial Commission of Childhood and Adolescence convened by the Government of Spain for next week, in which the distribution of unaccompanied foreign minors who have arrived in recent days in Ceuta is intended to be addressed.
With this decision, Extremadura aligns itself with two other autonomous communities, Castilla y León and Aragón, which have also announced that they will not attend said commission.
