The Government has valued very positively the "speed" with which the National Court has resolved the appeal that blocked the installation of a camp to house about 1,700 immigrants in the port of Ceuta, and maintains that this location remains the most suitable.
"We reiterate that the port land is the most suitable and has all the security guarantees to carry out the operation," government sources indicate.
The AN had ordered this Wednesday the Executive to temporarily halt the setup of tents in the port area, following the appeal presented by the police union SUP, which warned of an alleged lack of security conditions.
However, in less than 24 hours and after receiving additional information from the central Government, the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the National Court has finally rejected the SUP's request and authorized the Executive to proceed with the installation of the camp.
"Magnificent news" for the Executive
In this same line, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, responsible for the unified command in the Ceuta crisis, argues that this is "magnificent news" that will make it possible to "register" the migrants and "initiate the proceedings for their return, if they do not have the right to remain" in Spain.
"We celebrate this ruling that allows us to continue working to achieve normality in Ceuta as soon as possible," he stated in a video sent to the media.
Objective: to put an end to an unhealthy and conflictive situation
Shortly before the AN made its final decision, Torres had expressed his confidence that the judges would resolve urgently, "today or tomorrow," in an interview on TVE reported by Europa Press.
In that intervention, he recalled that the priority of the Executive is to end an "unhealthy" and "conflictive" situation on the beach of Ceuta, where thousands of immigrants are crowded who remain in the autonomous city a month and a half after the massive entry of 80,000 people from Morocco.
