The main unions of the National Police have once again criticized the Government's management this Friday by denouncing the "lack of foresight" in the operation carried out early in the morning for the transfer of migrants to the camp set up at the Port of Ceuta.
In a public statement, Jupol has reproached the "risk" to which, in their opinion, the Government has once again exposed the agents deployed in Ceuta due to that "lack of foresight." The union maintains that the police of the Police Intervention Unit (UIP) have been forced to participate in a "improvised, without sufficient means or planning and under conditions that compromise their safety" operation.
In response to these criticisms, official police sources have defended the design of the operation, in which more than 240 members of the State Security Forces and Corps have participated. They explain that this deployment has allowed for the transfer of migrants applying the minimum necessary force to guarantee public order and contain possible stampedes.
According to these data, 170 'anti-riot' agents from the UIP have been mobilized, supported by about 70 civil guards belonging to the GRS and citizen security units. The overall coordination of the operation has been the responsibility of the National Police.
Jupol specifies that those 170 agents from the UIP represent the totality of the personnel currently assigned in Ceuta to cover all operational needs of the city, "and not to an exclusive operation for these transfers" to the Port of Ceuta, where they estimate that around 70 police officers have intervened.
For their part, the SUP has described the scenes experienced during the transfer as "devastating," with moments of tension and migrants running towards the Port of Ceuta, and they have lamented the absence of a more solid planning. "We are going to be very attentive to ensure that security guarantees are met," this union has emphasized.
