The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has expressed his regret over the resignation of the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, although he has criticized the timing chosen to leave the position, in the midst of the electoral pre-campaign, considering that this departure does not favor either him or the PSOE. At the same time, he has hinted that there could be "other reasons" behind his departure, beyond his exclusion from the electoral lists for November 29.

Puente has defended that all positions and members of the PSOE are "subject to the decisions made by the organization," resolutions that, as he has recalled, sometimes result beneficial on a personal level and sometimes do not. He pointed this out on Monday during an informational breakfast organized by Nueva Economía.

In this context, the minister has emphasized that "we must be attentive to what the organization decides at each moment, we cannot get angry when they do not count on us and be happy when they do, because in the end we are at the disposal of the organization."

"Other reasons" and an "extraordinary" relationship

After insisting that he understands that in the case of Francisco Martín there may be additional motivations, Puente has added: "Therefore, I understand that there may be other reasons for Fran, not just those, and well, I regret it and feel it a lot because I truly appreciate him." He then revealed that the now former delegate, whom he referred to as Martín Aguirre, called him to inform him firsthand that he was going to make his resignation public.

On a personal level, the head of Transport has confessed that he takes the resignation of the Government delegate in Madrid "with pain," emphasizing that he has maintained an "extraordinary" relationship with him over the years. "I appreciate him very much," he stressed.

Francisco Martín, who had held the Government Delegation in Madrid since March 2023, submitted his resignation on Sunday, October 25, after it was confirmed that he was excluded from the candidacies for Congress and the Senate for the general elections on November 29, according to socialist sources.
