The top of the ERC list to Congress for Barcelona, Gabriel Rufián, has claimed the need to build a broad and inclusive party that brings together those who share principles such as justice, democracy and freedom, against those who try to “hand out citizenship cards.” In this context, he has taken aim at Junts, whom he accuses of proclaiming themselves patriots while, according to him, they end up voting alongside the PP and Vox.
He made these statements this Sunday during a pre-campaign event of ERC held in Badalona (Barcelona), which included the presence of the president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, as well as numbers 2, 3 and 6 of the list to Congress for Barcelona, Mireia Ingla, Jordi Albert and Alejandra Sandoval. The ERC spokesperson in Badalona and candidate for mayor, Àlex Montornés, also spoke. According to data provided by the Republican formation, about 2,000 people attended the rally.
Rufián highlighted the agreement sealed with Podemos ahead of the general elections on 29N, stressing that it is “much better to have people in favor of self-determination” than those who display the “estelada” but, he claims, vote against the interests of the Catalan working class.
