The Board of Spokespersons of the Assembly of Ceuta has condemned the "passive attitude" of the Government in the face of the migratory crisis that the city is facing in recent hours.

In a public statement, this body —in which PP, PSOE, Vox, and the localist formations MDyC and Ceuta Ya! are represented— asserts that it is "essential for the Executive to act with the urgency, decisiveness, and scale that a crisis of this magnitude demands."

According to the Board's assessment, the actions taken so far by the Government are "clearly insufficient," which is why it demands "a firmer commitment and immediate action."

The political forces integrated into the Board had already demanded this Thursday morning from the central Executive the closure of the border and the deployment of the army.

Additionally, they have confirmed that an extraordinary meeting with the Ceuta government was scheduled for this afternoon to analyze the migratory crisis that the city is suffering, which they refer to as a "unprecedented situation." "It is testing our institutional response capacity and generating extraordinary concern among the entire citizenry," they add in the statement.

Both the Board and the regional Executive have emphasized that the arrival of thousands of people through the Tarajal border in recent days, and with special intensity in recent hours, has created "unprecedented pressure, jeopardizing our territorial integrity and sovereignty, and posing an enormous challenge to the very stability of Ceuta."

Despite this, they convey to the people of Ceuta a "message of calm, serenity, and confidence" and highlight that the city has demonstrated on many occasions its "capacity to face extraordinary situations" and that, even now, it "will know how to rise to the occasion." "With unity, responsibility, and determination, we will overcome this difficult situation," concludes the statement.
