The Official State Bulletin (BOE) disseminates this Tuesday, April 28, the agreement signed between the Ministry of Defense and the Consellería do Medio Rural to organize the deployment of patrols aimed at the prevention of forest fires during the 2026 campaign, framed within the known "Operation Sentinel".
The text, signed by the conselleira do Medio Rural, María José Gómez, and the general director of Defense Policy, Fernando José López del Pozo, details that the cooperation will be articulated through the deployment of land patrols with surveillance and deterrent functions.
According to the agreement, the Ministry of Defense assumes the operational implementation of these land patrols between August 10 and September 25. Before that, a reconnaissance phase will be developed in which both administrations will maintain direct contact and exchange the necessary information to coordinate the device.
The Consellería do Medio Rural, for its part, will provide each patrol with an appropriate GPS device, accompanied by updated digital cartography suitable for movements through mountainous and forested areas.
The agreement specifies that the collaboration does not imply any obligation or financial commitment for the Ministry of Defense. The Xunta will cover the costs derived from this joint action, with a maximum global budget set at 593,815.32 euros.
Priority surveillance areas
The areas of surveillance and preferred action of the land patrols are located, in the province of A Coruña, in the municipalities of Outes, Noia, Porto do Son, Ribeira, A Pobra do Caramiñal, Boiro, and Lousame (IV Barbanza), in addition to Carnota and Muros (V Fisterra).
In the province of Pontevedra, the surveillance will focus on Montariz, Mondariz-Balneario, Ponteareas, Salvaterra de Miñio, Covelo, As Neves, Arbo, A Cañiza, and Crecente (XVII O Condado-Paradanta).
In Ourense, the patrols will operate in Melón (XI O Ribeiro-Arenteiro); Lobios, Muíños, Calvos de Randín, and Baltar (XV A Limia); Chandrexa de Queixa, Manzaneda, and Pobra de Trives (XIII Valdeorras-Trives); as well as in Vilariño de Conso, Laza, Viana do Bolo, A Gudiña, A Mezquita, Cualedro, and Oímbra (XIV Verín-Viana).
Finally, in the province of Lugo, the action zones are located in Folgoso do Courel, Quiroga, Ribas de Sil, A Pobra do Brollón, Monforte de Lemos, and Sober (VIII Terra de Lemos).
On June 25, the constitution of the Integrated Fire Prevention Committee of Galicia (CIPIG) was celebrated, with the participation of the Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, and the councilors of the Presidency, Diego Calvo, and Rural Environment, María José Gómez, along with representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Ecological Transition, and Defense.
