The parliamentary group Vox has registered a formal request in Congress for the Government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, to explain in the Joint Commission of Insularity (Congress-Senate) his statements in which he described the police interventions against some attendees of the protest against tourist saturation as "excessive and violent."
"The protest against tourism called in Palma de Mallorca by far-left separatist groups has ended with four agents of the National Police injured. Far from defending the agents, the Government delegate has become the spokesperson for the violent," wrote Vox deputy in Congress Jorge Campos on his account on the social network X.
In the written request for appearance, which Europa Press has accessed, Vox argues that it is essential for Rodríguez to account for "the events that occurred in the protest" and for "his subsequent statements regarding them in which he questioned the actions of the members of the State security forces and bodies."
Campos maintains that the Government delegate would have incurred in a "failure to fulfill his duties" due, among other reasons, to the "scarce" presence of personnel and material resources with which, according to Vox, the agents deployed in the security operation counted.
At the same time, Vox has presented a series of questions for written response with the intention of clarifying whether the Executive "shares the statements made by its delegate in the Balearic Islands," whether it understands that such statements "represent a public disavowal of the National Police that can translate into discredit" and whether it admits the "failure to fulfill duties" that, in the opinion of the party, Rodríguez would have committed.
