The president of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, has questioned the capacity of the PP to govern in the region and, in particular, the leadership of its highest regional official, Álvaro Queipo. "You are not an alternative," he has shot back during the second day of the political orientation debate of the Principality, which is taking place these days in the General Junta and in which Barbón maintains a tough face-to-face with the opposition groups.
The head of the Asturian Executive has emphasized that the few stages in which the right has governed in Asturias have been, in his opinion, marked by instability and lack of continuity.
"People want certainty, stability, and respect; what people want is order, is a solution to their problems, is useful politics," he has reiterated, addressing the 'popular' deputies to defend the management of his Government against the criticisms of the PP.
After the accusations made by Queipo, Barbón has reproached him for describing a "phantasmagorical" Asturias and has replied that the community "is growing" and that the current moment is the "resurgence" of the Principality. He has stressed that Asturias has had to face "unprecedented" reconversions and that this circumstance explains why the process of economic recovery has been prolonged over time.
Regarding the speech of the leader of the Asturian PP, Barbón has pointed out that he sees "nothing new" and that the little that is novel "is a fraud." "Saying that there has to be more housing, my niece Cayetana can do that," he has joked, reproaching him for not detailing concrete measures or an alternative government plan.
