Isabel Díaz Ayuso will make the leap to bookstores with Íntimo, her first book, which Planeta will publish on December 2 and in which the president of the Community of Madrid reviews episodes of her personal and political life, from her childhood to her time at the head of the regional Government. The work will arrive just three days after the general elections on November 29.
The book was written during the months of July and August, as Ayuso herself explained in the material released to present the work. The president links that process to the move she made this summer and to the return to some of the places that have marked her life, including the Madrid neighborhood of Chamberí and Sotillo de la Adrada, in Ávila, where she spent summers with her family.
“In these months of July and August I have reviewed my life completely,” Ayuso points out in one of the excerpts released on the occasion of the announcement. The president explains that she then returned to places especially linked to her childhood and recalls how some of those places were affected by the wildfires recorded this summer in the western Sierra of Madrid and the southeast of Ávila.
From Chamberí to the Presidency of Madrid
Íntimo presents a chronological and thematic journey through Ayuso's trajectory. Childhood in Chamberí and Sotillo de la Adrada, her youth, her studies, and her entry into politics are part of a narrative that reaches up to her current stage as president of the Community of Madrid, a position she has held since August 2019.
The political aspect occupies a relevant part of the content announced by the publisher. The book addresses her political commitment, the campaign of “Communism or freedom”, her position against nationalism, and the management of the covid pandemic, one of the periods that have most marked her years at the head of the regional Executive.
The work also incorporates the president's travels and hobbies, including music, sports, and gastronomy, as well as photographs and images related to her trajectory. Planeta presents the whole as a reconstruction of the experiences, people, and events that have contributed to shaping her political thought.
Abortion and other personal episodes
The autobiographical dimension will lead Ayuso to also address issues that until now had remained on a more personal level. Among them is the abortion she suffered, presented by the publisher as one of the difficult episodes included in the volume, along with references to people who have been relevant both in her private life and in her political career.
Planeta assures that the book is written with the "direct and frank" language that, according to the editorial promotion itself, characterizes the president of Madrid. The publisher also maintains that Ayuso intends to explain through these experiences how her ideology has been constructed and the principles that guide her political activity, a description that is part of the commercial presentation of the work.
Ayuso herself presents the project as an exercise in reviewing her personal trajectory, particularly linked to the events of last summer. The full content of the volume has not yet been disclosed, so the extent of her references to political leaders, controversies from her years in government, or other episodes of her public life remains pending publication.
A debut marked by the electoral calendar
The chosen date places Ayuso's editorial debut at a singular political moment. Intimate will arrive in bookstores on December 2, three days after the general elections on November 29, while its announcement has occurred right at the start of the electoral period, with the president of Madrid incorporated into the political strategy of the PP.
Ayuso publishes this book after more than a decade as a regional deputy and seven years at the head of the Community of Madrid. She entered the Assembly in 2011, later passed through the regional Government, and reached the Presidency in 2019, before reinforcing her political position with the regional elections of 2021 and 2023.
Intimate will therefore be the first work published by Ayuso herself, although her trajectory has already been the subject of other books. This same year, journalist David Fernández published Ayuso. Tripwires, intrigues, and revenge in the Court of Madrid, an investigation into her political rise based on interviews with more than 180 people, according to the information published about the work.
