The Governing Council of Castilla y León has given the green light this Thursday, October 29, to a credit increase of four million euros to strengthen emergency actions against Newcastle disease in poultry farms in the Community.
The spokesperson for the Junta, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, has detailed that this new economic injection is added to the 1.5 million euros initially authorized, so that the overall amount allocated so far to these measures reaches 5.5 million euros.
According to what Fernández Carriedo indicated, the epidemiological evolution of the disease has led to the detection of new outbreaks, which has increased the number of farms subject to restrictions and has made it necessary to prolong over time the official eradication, control, and surveillance actions.
"This evolution has generated economic needs higher than initially expected, so additional resources have been approved to provide an adequate response to the evolution of the disease," the spokesperson acknowledged. The budget extension will allow maintaining and financing the continuity of the actions contemplated in the Order of June 19, 2026, in order to cover the needs arising from Newcastle disease in the poultry sector.
