The Xunta has announced that this Monday, 9 November, a new extraction campaign for red crab and langoustine will begin in Galicia, once the closed season period set for both species has ended.
As the Galician Government has reported in a press release, with this date the closed season included in the experimental plan for the management of these species 2026-2027, approved by the Consellería do Mar and published in the Diario Oficial de Galicia (DOG) on 19 June, is deemed to be concluded.
With regard to the red crab, fishing will resume in zones A and B, which extend from the mouth of the Miño River to Cabo Corrubedo and, subsequently, from that point to Estaca de Bares, respectively.
On the contrary, in zone C, located between Estaca de Bares and the mouth of the Eo River, the closed season will remain in effect until 29 November, so the extraction campaign will be activated on Monday 30. In the case of langoustine, its capture will be authorized from this Monday throughout the Galician coastline.
The management plan sets a maximum limit for capture and landings of 35 kilos per vessel and day for red crab, to which are added another 35 kilos per day for each crew member enrolled on board.
All fishing activity must be carried out in compliance with the conditions established for the different authorized fishing gears, as well as with the current regulations regarding the extraction and marketing of sea products.
The regional executive has emphasized that red crab and langoustine are resources caught mostly by the artisanal fleet. The closed season period seeks to protect the stages of greatest reproductive activity of these species, ensure the natural renewal of fishing grounds, and reinforce the sustainability of their exploitation.
In addition, the experimental plan, which will remain in force until the start of the 2027 closed season, includes monitoring and evaluation measures for extraction activity in order to analyze the evolution of these marine resources.
